3 Sure-Fire Ways to make your workouts more FUN!
I don’t know about you, but I LOVE having fun. I mean, who doesn’t right?
Throughout my time in the fitness industry, I’ve come to meet a lot of people and clients who don’t find their fitness routine fun, exciting, energetic or engaging and I truly want to change that!
One of my personal beliefs is that in order for a fitness routine or for that matter, any type of fitness program to be maintained, it first must be FUN & enjoyable for YOU. Whether that means sweating it out on a 10km run (if that tickles your fancy) or dancing around to your favourite Spotify playlist (now that sounds good!), it has to have that element of fun in order to stick with it.
So now, here are my top 3 tips to make your workouts more fun:
1. Find your people- you know the ones who just get you!
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve joined a gym or taught group fitness classes in places that just don’t resonate with me. Something that I’ve learnt is that we all have our ‘people’ and our ‘community’ where we belong and that truly make our hearts sing! When I started Limitless Fitness & Nutrition, I felt this SO strongly! Our beautiful community, filled with uplifting women is something that makes me excited to get out of bed and get into an epic, challenging workout together. Your job is to find your tribe & the place/ community that gives you those feel good, fuzzies whenever you step into a workout.
2. Create a killer playlist.
There’s something special about music that can change your mood in the flick of a play button from drab to fab. There’s also research highlighting that when working out, our heartbeat will try to match the BPM (beats per minute) of the music playing. Pretty cool right!? If you’re looking to make your workout more fun & exciting, create a playlist full of your favourite workout tunes. I can’t go past Spotify for creating class playlists and my own personal ones to uplift and inspire me. You’ll uncover some awesome ‘Discover Weekly’ recommendations on there too that are bound to get you feel excited to jump into your next workout and make it that extra bit more fun!
3. Actually do what you enjoy. Yes, seriously.
Yes, it’s that simple. Do what you love and do it often. If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the past 7 years working in the fitness industry, it’s that the exercise programs that actually work and people love doing are the ones that they enjoy. If you love dancing- do it! If you love group fitness classes- do it! If you love lifting heavy weights- do it! Just DO IT. One thing that upsets me is that social media promotes a lot of ‘one size fits all’ workout plans and programs that a lot of people won’t enjoy, but they think that in order to look a certain way, they should do them. No ‘6-pack’ is worth sacrificing your happiness for. Been there, done that (without the 6-pack!). Trust me. Find what you love and feel no guilt for doing what is right for you (even if it isn’t what Instagram says is right to do).
