3 health & fitness hacks to make your lockdown work for you

As I write this blog, currently there are quite a few of my fellow Australian’s who are currently in lockdown. I’m sending a big hug your way if you are impacted by the current situation, but something to think about is, it will pass & we will be ok.

One thing though I was thinking about though was actually, how we have this time we can choose to use to the benefit of our fitness & nutrition. We have more time to ourselves (well, maybe?), we can choose how we spend that extra time we may have otherwise spent commuting & because well, we don’t really have anywhere to be (lucky you though if you do though!), we can absolutely use this time to get organised, get in routine & make some serious fitness changes!

So, here’s 3 hacks I wanted to share with you to help you stay on track & help you make the most of this time for your fitness & nutrition.

1.    Get your routine right

One of the biggest things I want to remind you of right now is the importance of sticking to a routine each day that will keep you moving, feeling in control and on track. What works for me, is getting up at the same time each day, teaching my classes, going for a walk, eating brekky & starting my work for the day ahead. For you, it may be similar.

Basically, set up a routine & stick to it & you may find that you actually enjoy it so much that you want to keep sticking to it, post lockdown!

A great way to set your routine up is to segment your days up using a big piece of A4 paper. Write down the times you’re doing to do each thing on your ‘to do list’ and schedule them in & stick to it!

 2.    Try something you’ve always wanted to

Have you always had a running bucket list of things you want to try but you’ve never been able to? Maybe there’s a nutritious meal you’ve always wanted to cook? Or maybe you’ve always wanted to go on a walk (in your 5okm radius) that you haven’t been able to before, because you’ve been too busy. Now is literally the best time to do all these things.

What will you be trying (I made a delish batch of Tahini Cookies on the weekend that were epic!).

3.    Don’t forget the importance of breathing, resting & taking it easy.

Writing this one feels like it’s a little bit of a contradiction to myself because, I’ll be the first to admit, I’m probably the most highly-strung, not relaxed person you’ll ever meet. Something I’ve learned recently though is how important in times of uncertainty it is for us to just take some time for ourselves when we need it.

What I’ve found works for me personally is taking 5 minutes at the start of each day to do deep breathing & doing the same before bed. For you, it may look like having a long bath at the end of the day or whatever else works for you. Commit to doing it though and watch as you feel more calm, in control and ok about what lies ahead.

So, with everything happening in the world, I hope these few tips were helpful for you & have given you some inspiration to use this time, to the best of your ability in a positive way. As I said, this is only for a short time and we’re all in this together!
