3 tips for staying ‘balanced’ over the Christmas period with your fitness & nutrition
With Christmas fast approaching, one thing I get asked about a lot is ‘how do I stay balanced with my fitness routine & nutrition’. One thing to know my friends, is that there is no one sized fit’s all solution! Lucky for you though, I’ve got my favourite top 4 tips to share with you, so you can find your balance & stay on top of your fitness & nutrition game over the fun & festive season!
1. Keep moving in a way you enjoy!
Ok, so one thing I can tell you for a fact is that we get really busy over the Christmas period, that is totally normal! We’re out for lunches, dinners, BBQ’s, brunches, parties, the works! But, be mindful, there is still time to move. Even if it’s just for 10 minutes.
Take off the pressure to have to exercise for hours upon hours. Commit to a time that you can stick to. Do 15 minutes of walking each morning, commit to doing an online group fitness class, go for a swim at the beach, dance around your living room! Whatever it is, do it, commit to it and be consistent. The Christmas season is often when I start to clients wind down for the year (which is totally fine) but be mindful, you’re going to feel better (and function better) when you’ve given yourself time to move in your day!
2. Enjoy everything in moderation!
I’ve said it before, but diets in general don’t work. Not now, not ever! Christmas is the time when we have SO much good food around us: chocolates, dips, platters, trifles (yum!). My motto is, enjoy everything in moderation and don’t feel like you have to restrict yourself to stay on track. Eat the food you want to, enjoy it, that’s what life is about. When the parties over, get back to your usual eating pattern. I promise, eating is really not as complicated as what it often is made out to be!
3. Get your goal setting started now!
I don’t know about you, but I am a serious sucker for goal setting- I LOVE it! To keep yourself motivated, on track & disciplined to achieve what you’re after, set your goals for 2021 now and implement steps to start working towards them. In 2021, your goal may be to start doing a LFN class, every morning for 40 minutes for instance. GREAT! In order to do that, take steps now such as, writing down how you want to feel after committing to those classes and keep them SMART:
Specific- How many classes per week do you want to do?
Measureable- How will you measure your success? Tick off classes as you go in your diary?
Achievable- Can you achieve the amount of classes you set your mind to with the time restraints/ commitments you have?
Realistic- Is the timeframe you’ve set long enough to get to where you want to be? OR is it too long & you could achieve more in that timeframe?
Timely- How long do you want it to be until you see changes happen?
Keep all these things in mind and you’re well on your way to creating some EPIC 2021 goals!
So, there you have it, 3 tips for staying balanced over Christmas. Remember, enjoy this time of year, but stay committed to your fitness journey. You are #limitless & can achieve anything you set your mind to.
